Why: I had made a unique brandy-based gin which echoed the botanical build of our vermouth but bolstered with juniper (duh). I thought it would be a fun companion piece but then Jess found a demi-john of vermouth that we forgot to bottle while I read Gary Shteyngart's ode to the Martini and 'Chummy Feeling' emerged. Another gin was created from a base of fermented orange pulp and malt whiskey that folded back in some more traditional gin botanicals absent in the vermouth (grains of paradise, peppercorns). Bold, crisp, and aromatically lively.
Jess, who it turns out maybe never had a proper gin martini before, wanted me to caution everyone that martinis are strong and can make you tipsy.
Why now: It seems like there are a lot of emergencies these days and its good to be prepared.
